If you are a feminist engaged in an argument with a dissenter and you say that women make less money than men you have not done anything but stated a phenomenon. It’s not an argument in favor of anything. It doesn’t mean anything. I could state that women are over-represented in the nursing field and it would be just as meaningless in a discussion about sexism. There are cultural and social reasons why different segments of society gravitate toward different professions and positions. It’s unfounded to simply assume that different minorities or genders will naturally gravitate toward the same fields in equal numbers and consequently reflect equal economic levels. Human beings don’t work like that, given that they are not robots. You can take note that women make less money than men but you have done absolutely nothing to explain it by attributing it to some invisible, secret omnipresent force called ‘patriarchy’.
